Optional tours 

A fantastic range of optional tours will be provided for the Dioxin 2012 Symposium which will offer delegates and accompanying persons the chance to experience the magnificent Tropical North Queensland region.
 
Delegates and accompanying persons will be able to register for these tours once registration opens. These tours are optional and at an additional cost. To book please select your tour upon registration or contact the Symposium managers for more information. Bookings for tours will close on 26 July 2012.

Green Island

 
 
Green Island is a beautiful coral cay on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. A visit to Green Island is one of the most popular things to do in Cairns.  It is a marine national park with unique rainforests, surrounded by white sandy beaches and magnificent coral reefs and abundant marine life. This tropical island paradise is also home to over 120 native plant species and colourful bird life. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to dive and swim in the clear island waters, view the spectacular famous reef, explore the island or relax on the beach.

The cruise includes a snorkelling demonstration and reef presentation, glass bottom boat tour or snorkelling equipment for the day, self guided island walk, two hours to enjoy Green Island, afternoon tea and return coach transfers.
 
Delegates are to meet outside the Cairns Convention Centre at 1200 hours for prompt coach transfer at 1215 hours. Delegates will then check in at the reef fleet terminal around 1230 hours for their departure and due to return back at the Cairns Convention Centre around 1715 hours.

Skyrail cableway and Kuranda village


Skyrail rainforest cableway is a world first in environmental tourism taking you on an amazing experience over Australia’s world heritage listed tropical rainforest canopy and deep into the forest. With over 7.5kms of pristine rainforest, the Skyrail experience allows you to explore the wonders of an ancient tropical rainforest while gliding through just meters above the rainforest canopy in comfortable gondola cabins. Delegates will be able to experience about a 1 hour journey on the Skyrail cableway. Afternoon tea will be provided.
 
Kuranda, the ‘village in the rainforest’, is home to many attractions including Australia’s largest butterfly sanctuary, a lively bird aviary and a diverse range of shops, cafes and restaurants. Skyrail cableway and Kuranda village provides you with a truly unique rainforest experience and is an attraction that shouldn’t be missed in Cairns.
 
Delegates are to meet outside the Cairns Convention Centre at 1245 hours for coach transfer at 1300 hours. Delegates are due to return back to the Cairns Convention Centre around 1715 hours.

Reef Magic Cruise—Outer reef tour
 

Reef Magic cruises has exclusive access to the Marine World outer reef activity platform. This stunning world heritage listed site is located on the premium outer edge of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and has been hand picked for its superior water clarity, coral quality and overall diversity of marine life.

The tour includes five hours at Marine World on the Great Barrier Reef, all snorkelling equipment including personal flotation devices in adult/child sizes, on board marine biology presentation/talk en-route to the reef, semi-submersible tours with interactive commentary, glass bottom boat tours with interactive commentary, fish feeding and identification session with our Marine Biologist, underwater observatory, use of sundeck, fresh water showers and changing rooms and morning and afternoon teas and full hot/cold buffet lunch.

Many other optional activities including diving, snorkel tours, helicopter tours and massages can also be arranged on the day at an additional cost.

Accompanying persons are to make their own way to and from the Cairns Reef Fleet Terminal (located approximately 1 km from the Convention Centre). We ask if accompanying persons can make their own way to the Cairns Reef Fleet Terminal no later than 0815 hours to make sure they are checked in and be escorted to the catamaran and ready for departure by 0900 hours. Accompanying persons are due to return back to the terminal around 1700 hours.

Cape Tribulation Daintree and wildlife eco-experience
 
 
Cape Tribulation is located within the Daintree National Park and is renowned as “where the oldest rainforest in the world meets the Great Barrier Reef”. Travel to this Wet Tropics World Heritage area in Port Douglas via the Captain Cook Highway, one of Australia’s most scenic coastal drives and explore the Wildlife Habitat—one of Australia’s leading environmental wildlife experiences. Your guided tour will take you through one of the three environments: the rainforest, the wetland and the grasslands. Wander along elevated boardwalks and observe up close a huge range of flora and fauna as birds fly and roam freely. See rare animals such as the endangered Southern Cassowary and the Lumholtz’s Tree Kangaroo.  You will get to embark on the Daintree River Cruise and spot crocodiles, birds and other wildlife as you journey through the mangroves. The next stops will be at Alexandra lookout for magnificent views then off to Floravilla Art Gallery and ice cream factory for a picnic lunch. Your tour will then take you to Dubuji boardwalk for a guided rainforest walk and great photo opportunities and visit Myall beach. The day will end with afternoon tea at Dubuji boardwalk with estimated time of arrival back to the Cairns Convention Centre at 1930 hours. All transfers and morning tea, picnic lunch and afternoon tea and are included.
